Dr. Irina Effendi-Tenang is an ophthalmologist at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre specialising in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. She earned her BMedSci and BMBS from University of Nottingham and began her early ophthalmology training at Royal Derby Hospital, United Kingdom. Upon returning to Malaysia, she obtained a Master of Ophthalmology from Universiti Malaya and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK).

She completed subspecialty training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Queensland Children’s Hospital, Australia. At UMMC, she is involved in clinical care, teaching, and research, and received the Excellence Service Award in 2023. Dr. Irina is also part of the ATOM-Malaysia team researching low-dose atropine (Myopine) for myopia control in Malaysian children.
